There are several things to discuss in this newsletter, so let’s hope everyone picks up a copy or at least knows someone who did.
Status
There is a tentative SU compilation of status, its uses (and abuses), and a Q&A available from the STs to be perused. This is a work-in-progress, but it will eventually be Saskatoon policy, so please, if you have any questions about Status, consult your local ST.
Malkavian Clan Advantage
The Malkavian clan Advantage states (in LotN) : "...any Malkavian may choose to ignore one of the following: any use of Status Traits in a Social Challenge, the loss of Status, or any of the other uses of Status. This benefit may only be evoked in a single situation and can only benefit the Malkavian personally. Any Status Trait risked in a challenge are neither lost, nor are they bid - they simply do not exist to the Malkavian". Our official interpretation : This advantage can be used once per situation. This means that once the Malkavian has activated her Clan Advantage, she is immune to any status use regarding that situation.
Example :
Prince: "X Malkavian, I hereby and forthwith among the Camarilla, do so strip you of the status of ‘honourable’, for you were seen cavorting naked among mortals". X: "Ah, you’re just jealous" (Utilizes CA)
Now, the stripper-of-status can’t just turn around and say : "I said, I’m stripping you of status!"...that negates the entire CA. This does not make Malkavians immune to status loss...it simply encourages new and creative (and well-thought out) uses of Status.
Status Over The Net
The IC listserver is a Camarilla-sponsored and Camarilla-sanctioned service. Non-Camarilla Kindred do not have access to the listserve at all. Therefore, since it is a public Camarilla forum, Status use is permitted on the IC listserve. However, granting and removals of status must also be announced at the next public Gathering before they ‘take effect’. Hopefully this will encourage more inter-city internet gaming. Please forward any use of status over the IC listserve to us (your local ST s or forward it to the ST team of the player in question).
Majesty
A reminder: Though Majesty is an advanced discipline, it does not allow the Majestic individual to hide behind a blanket of social invincibility. Yes, those who face the Majestic individual are filled with senses of awe, fear, and respect....but that doesn’t give the Majestic individual carte blanche to go all willy-nilly...the ST team of Saskatoon does not interpret an ‘offensive action’ as merely a physical attack. It is possible for Majesty to be broken (for an individual) if they have been socially accosted or have been the brunt of a mental attack (some uses of Dominate, for instance). Since this is such a subjective topic, we recommend that if there is any discrepancy, please find a ST to help interpret the scene. Please note also that this doesn’t mean that a Majestic individual can’t rant and rave and carry on...quite the opposite...but when it comes down to personal attacks (which are, in our opinion, an offensive action), there is a possibility that Majesty can be broken.
Example : Spider, who has Majesty, is facing off with Sister Mary. Spider starts telling the good Nun where to put her Habit and just when to remove it...all of a sudden, though Sister Mary may still be ‘afraid’ of Spider, she no longer holds her in quite as high esteem. The Majesty has been broken.
Majesty vs. Pavis of the Foul Presence
Majesty is an Advanced discipline, while Pavis is an Intermediate ritual. The following is how we’ve decided to rule on the question of exactly how Pavis works against Majesty : If you have Pavis of the Foul Presence cast on your person, you may use it as a ‘free’ test when trying to break someone’s Majesty. This means that if your first attempt at breaking Majesty fails and you have Pavis cast, you may consider the attempt against the Majesty never to have happened. You don’t lose the trait...it’s as if you hadn’t tried. Subsequent attempts at breaking Majesty as per LotN and the House Rules. Clarification: This means that against Majesty, Pavis is not ‘always turned on’. It must be activated, as per the lower levels of Presence.
Potence
Saskatoon does not give +5 traits for Vigor (the intermediate level of Potence). It is run as per LotN...you get the ‘bomb’, and that is all.
Reminders
The second Friday of every month is a sanctioned ‘meet with the ST team’/do some scenes/other stuff night. We will try to have them in the Campus Club rooms (starting at 7-8pm)...if you’re unsure as to location or time, call us! - Anything and Everything you talk about OOC can (and most likely will) be used IC. This is the official policy of the Saskatoon ST Team. So, please...please...PLEASE don’t discuss in-character stuff out-of-character!!!! Any claims of meta-gaming based on players using information garnered via OOC discussions will be met with this response, and a shrug. Sorry, but this is the only way we can police OOC/IC discussions without asking you to haul tape recorders around with you.
David Hutton wants all of you to consider submitting cool stuff to the Saskatoon Star Kloenix. If you are interested in testing your hand at journalism, please write up some stories and send them to one of the ST team so we can get them to David. Acceptable without Media Influence are : classified ads, editorials, and advertisements. These don’t have to go through the ST team.
All scenes involving out-of-town characters being physically present in Saskatoon (ie - not telephone conversations, email, or snailmail) must be okayed by the ST team or they don’t take place. There will be no exceptions to this rule, and any instance of the rule being broken will be met with the decision to disallow all out-of-town characters from playing in Saskatoon between our Elysiums.
