Homeless Suffering Under Attacks

Saskatoon, SK. – Ryan Turner may look like any other pan handler asking for your change until you notice the neck brace, and look of frustration on his face. Turner says he’s just one of a growing number of homeless who say they are becoming targets of unprovoked street violence. The attack against Turner happened late in the evening of March 29th while he was heading to one of the shelters near 20th street. All that he remembers feeling a blow from the behind and then waking up the next day in St. Paul’s Hospital. Turner had heard the rumours of someone attacking the homeless but still went about his regular business of collecting bottles and cans from the trash bins earlier that evening. While none of the attacks have been fatal they do seem to be occurring more often. While Turner still continues to collect the bottles, he now does so with a friend.
