Darkest Night Introduction
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to announce that Harrow is not proceeding (unless James or Rhea decide to run it in the future) and that I am instead running a World of Darkness LARP. The premise involves normal people who will be put in a position where they will be able to gain supernatural abilities over the course of the chronicle. The choices the characters make and how they act with the world will determine whether or not they gain supernatural abilities or not. Most of the World of Darkness creatures (Mages, Werewolves, Vampires and others) exist in the world but at the start of the chronicle the players will be mostly ignorant to their existence and do not expect them to follow how they are described in the rule books. The game will be designed to run with a limited power base for special abilities. What this means is that the characters will eventually be competing with each other for the special abilities in addition to the difficulties of living in The World of Darkness. Initially the majority of the characters are “normal” people without any special abilities.
If you are considering purchasing a book the only one I would suggest looking at is the core rulebook.
The chronicle will start with each of the characters receiving an invitation to a meeting and the day of the meeting they will feel a strong urge to attend. Shortly before the meeting is to take place the pull will disappear but your character is intrigued enough and knows that the feeling was completely unnatural and will choose to attend to see what is happening.
The chronicle is meant to be wide open with possibilities based on the players’ actions. There is an overplot but whether you choose to become involved with it is your choice. One aspect of the game is the limited resources and the characters competing for those resources but it is up to the players themselves how these resources are divided.
I have a conclusion planned for the chronicle but when this happens will be based on player and storyteller interest. As of right now there is no set time line for the chronicle.
A copy of the character sheet template and a guide to creating a character is available if you wish to start prior to meeting with me. All characters start out with no experience. If you hand in a written background, details information sheet, webpage write-up, npc relationship description and connections you can receive up to 25 starting XP.
Character creation will take place on 4 days/evenings throughout this month. The times I will be available are:
Friday Feb. 20th 1PM-4PM
Thursday Feb. 19th 7PM-10PM
Friday Feb. 27th 1PM-4PM
Sunday March 1st 1PM-4PM
Please try to attend one of these and I would appreciate an email letting me know that you are interested in playing and which creation slot you would like to attend.
If none of these times work for you please let me know ASAP and we can try to set up a time to create characters. I would like to create characters with groups as I would like to encourage your characters to have connections with each other.
All characters should be created prior to March 10th.
The game will take place on the second Saturday of each month with the first game being on March 14th. It will run 7:00-12:00. I am planning on doing side scenes on the Saturday late afternoons prior to the games although I will try to make myself available as much as possible.
If you have any questions about the game please send me an email to storyteller@saskatoonbynight.com or contact me by phone at 665-7332. No phone calls after 9:00 in the evening please.
Thanks and I hope to see you out for SBN.
John.
